Daylami lands racing's most sought after honour

Dubai-
Dashing grey Daylami capped a momentous season when he won the Horse of the Year title, to further embellish the record-setting 18 Group One wins that the Dubai-based Godolphin stable achieved this summer.

Winner of the inaugural Emirates Racing Series, a championship that links some of the best races across the globe, Daylami was awarded racing's most sought after decoration at the Cartier Racing Awards.

Less than two-weeks ago, the five-year-old son of Doyoun who has been leased by Godolphin from the Aga Khan, scored its most celebrated victory when winning the Breeders' Cup Turf, for it's incredible fourth Group One success of the year.

French hope Montjeu, winner of the high-profile Prix de l'Arc de Triophme in Paris, was a strong contender for the Horse of the Year title as well, but did not merit the same attention as Daylami did amongst the voters for the award.

Trained at Newmarket by Dubai national Saeed bin Suroor, Daylami's four celebrated victories came in Epsom's Coronation Cup, Ascot's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, the Irish Champion Stakes and most recently the Breeders' Cup Turf.

The strongly built grey has been a wonderful success story since joining Godolphin. Winner of the 1997 French 2,000 Guineas he has improved with every year. Last season he scored three major win, the best of those victories was when he led a most famous 1-2-3 for Godolphin in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown. Packed off to Belmont Park in New York he ran out a ready winner in the Man O'War Stakes.

Godolphin, the operation pioneered by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defense, were awarded another victory at the Cartier Awards when Kayf Tara was conferred with the Stayer of the Year title.

Top English trainer Henry Cecil's Oaks winner Ramruma was named best three-year-old filly, while Irish maestro Aidan O'Brien clinched the best sprinter award with Newmarket July Cup winner Stravinsky. O'Brien also took the prize for top juvenile with Fasliyev, winner of Royal Ascot's Coventry Stakes.
