Information

The Hakko 21 of Hakko Unyu or Hakko Transportation, which operates the Miyazaki-Hososhima-Osaka route treates up to 12 foot passengers.

Shosen Mitsui Ferry (MOL Ferry)'s Musashi Maru and Miyako Maru ceased to call at Oppama from May 2014.

RKK Lines' Churashima entered service on the Naha-Hakata route & the Naha-Miyakojima-Ishigakijima route on April 28, 2014.

Shanghai Shimonoseki Ferry Co., Ltd. changed in trade name to 'Suzhou Shimonoseki Ferry Co., Ltd.' in August 2014.

Marue Ferry (A" Line)'s ro-ro vessel, Ryukyu Express 2 (10,758gt) took the water at Yamanishi's shipyard in Ishinomaki on August 28, 2014. She was delivered in December 2014, and entered service on the Tokyo-Shibushi-Naha, Okinawa island route.

In April 2015, Imoto Lines opened the Tsuruga-Otake-Kobe route.

On June 2, 2015, the Dai-san Haru Maru (Haru Maru No.3), a 8,500gt RORO vessel for Toyama-based Oshima Butsuryu took the water at Naikai Zosen Setoda shipyard.

Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen ("K" Line Kinkai) will open a Shimizu-Oita route (762km) for RORO vessels in October 2016.

On September 1, 2015, Amami-based Marue Ferry (A" Line)'s Ryukyu Express 3 (10,034gt, RORO vessel) took the water at Yamanishi Corp. in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture, She will replace the Takachiho (3,891gt, 1990), and enter service on the Tokyo-Shibushi-Naha (Okinawa) route (1,745km) with her sister, Ryukyu Express 2 (10,758gt, 2014) in December 2015.

On December 3, 2015, Marue Ferry (A" Line)'s RORO vessel, Ryukyu Express 3 (10,034gt) entered service on the Tokyo-Shibushi-Naha route. The Takachiho was replaced.

Shangahi Super Express will be out of service at the end of 2015, and will go into liquidation at the end of March, 2016.

In December 2015, Imoto Lines' 540TEU domestic container ship, Natori(7,390gt)was completed. The Natori was built at Kyokuyo Shipyard Corp., and is an eco-ship with a unique bulbous bow bridge. She is due to enter service on the Tokyo/Yokohama-Kobe-Moji-Hakata-Kobe-Tokyo/Yokohama route.

On February 25, 2016, the Toyo Maru No.3, a domestic car carrier for Santokusenpaku Co., Ltd. was completed at Naikai Zosen Corporation. Mazda Logistics Co., Ltd. will operate her on the Hiroshima-Chiba route.

The Fuou Maru, a RORO vessel for "K" Line Kinkai (Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen) took the water at Naikai Zosen Innoshima shipyard on May 20, 2016. She is expected to be completed in September 2016.

Suzhou Shimonoseki Ferry's "Utopia 2 (ex-New Shirayuri)", which has been laid up at Aioi since October 2009 was renamed "Top", and went to Hong Kong in June 2016.

On June 16, 2016, Ryukyu Kaiun (RKK Line) announced that it will build 2 RORO vessels (11,900gt). The Niraikanai and the Shurei will be replaced in 2017.

On June 24, 2016, Naha-based Ryukyu Kaiun (RKK Line) began so-called "seamless logistics" between Okinawa and Kaohsiung (Taiwan) with its ro-ro vessel, Miyarabi II.

The Hokuo Maru (11,492gt) will enter service on the Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen's Shimizu-Oita route which will open in October 2016.

On May 11, 2017, A Line (Marue Ferry)'s RORO vessel, "Ryukyu Express 5" (10,000gt) took the water at Yamanishi (Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture). She will enter service on the Naha-Shibushi-Tokyo route on October 12, 2017,

From July 24, 2017, Aeon and Sapporo Holdings will use K Line Kinkai's RORO vessel, Hokuo Maru on the Shimizu-Oita route twice a week on a conjoint basis.

On July 25, 2017, the Niraikanai II (about 11,900gt/7,600dw), a RORO vessel for Naha-based Ryukyu Kaiun (RKK Line) took the water at Saiki Heavy Industries in Saiki, Oita prefecture. She is set to enter service on the Naha (Okinawa)-Osaka-Tokyo route with her sister, Shurei II, which took the water in May 2017.

On August 14, 2017, Ryukyu Kaiun (RKK Line)'s RORO vessel, "Shurei II" (11,687gt, LOA: 182m, Beam: 26m, Truck: 177, Car: 290) entered service on the Naha-Osaka-Tokyo route. Her sister, "Niraikanai II" is set to enter service in November 2017.

Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen ("K" Line Kinkai) will operate the Hokuo Maru and the Yuou Maru on the Oita-Shimizu-Hitachinaka route, and quit calling at Kita Kyushu (Hiakari) from March 2018.

Shimonoseki-based Suzhou Shimonoseki Ferry will build a new RORO vessel at Kanda Shipbuilding and launch her on the Shimonoseki-Suzhou (China) route at the end of January, 2019, The Utopia IV (ex-New Akatsuki, 14,250gt) will be replaced.

On November 14, 2017, Ryukyu Kaiun (RKK Line)'s RORO vessel, "Niraikanai II" (11,687gt, LOA: 182m, Beam: 26m, Truck: 177, Car: 290) entered service on the Naha-Osaka-Tokyo route. She is a sister ship of the Shurei II.

On August 29, 2018, Kinkai Yusen Kaisha (KYK Line) announced that it will open the Tsuruga-Fukuoka (Hakata) route (635km) in April 2019, and launch 2 RORO vessels (9800gt, Truck (12m): about 120) on the route. By linking to the existing Tsuruga-Tomakomai route, KYK Line aims at offering the fastest & high frequency marine transport services between Hokkaido and Kyushu.

On October 25, 2018, a new RORO vessel, "UTOPIA" (3,200dw, LOA: 144.00m, Beam: 27.00m) for Suzhou Shimonoseki Ferry took the water at Kanda Shipbuilding. She is expected to enter service in February 2019.

On December 20, 2018, MOL Ferry (Shosen Mitsui Ferry) announced that it will shift the Fukuoka (Hakata)-Uno-Tokyo route, which is operated with Nippon Express, to the Fukuoka (Hakata)-Oita-Tokyo-Omaezaki-Fukuoka (Hakata) route from April 1, 2019.

On January 7, 2019, Kinkai Yusen Kaisha (KYK Line) announced that it will open the Tsuruga-Hakata (Fukuoka) route with the Nanotsu (ex-Marimo、built 1999) on April 1, 2019.

Suzhou Shimonoseki Ferry will launch the UTOPIA (16,408gt), a RORO vessel on the Suzhou-Shimonoseki route on February 10, 2019.

On February 28, 2019, Shosen Mitsui Ferry (MOL Ferry)'s RORO vessel, "Buzen" (11,674gt) entered service on the Kanda-Tokyo route. Her sister ship, "Suo" is set to enter service in the middle of May, 2019.

On March 25, 2019, Naha-based Nansei Kaiun announced that it established a partnering relationship with A" Line (Marue Ferry) on January 29, 2019, and opened the Naha-Kita Kyushu (Hiagari) route. From the end of March, they will carry building materials, including steel beams by use of two ROROs, A" Line's Ryukyu Express 2 and shared Ryukyu Express 6.

On May 17, 2019, Shosen Mitsui Ferry (MOL Ferry)'s RORO vessel, Suo entered service on the Kanda-Uno-Tokyo route.

Izumi Kisen's "Izumi Maru" (13,038gt), a RORO vessel which was built at Naikai Zosen Setoda shipyard entered service on May 24, 2019. She can carry up to 1447 cars and 52 trailers. Fujitrans Corporation will operate her.

RKK Line (Ryukyu Kaiun Kaisha) has ordered a RoRo vessel (1,900gt) from Onomichi Dockyard. The RoRo vessel will be built at Onomichi shipyard and set to be delivered in February 2021. It is the first time since 1997 when the "Niraikanai" vessel was built, for Onomichi shipyard to build a RoRo vessel.

On October 1, 2019, the HAKKO Hinata (about 4,999gt) who is being built for Hakko Unyu took the water at Honda Heavy Industries' Saiki Shipyard. She is set to be delivered in January 2020.

Duwon Shipping Co. Ltd., a South Korean Shipping company opened the Vladivostok-Pohang(Yeongilman)-Maizuru route with the Eastern Dream (ex-Queen Coral, 11,478gt) on September 17, 2020.

On November 17, 2020, RKK Line (Ryukyu Kaiun Kaisha) 's RORO vessel, Ayahashi (about 11,900gt) took the water at Onomichi Dockyard in Hiroshima prefecture. She is expected to enter service in February 2021.

Duwon Shipping Co. Ltd., a South Korean Shipping company was out of business on February 1, 2021.

RKK Line (Ryukyu Kaiun Kaisha) 's ro-ro vessel, Ayahashi (GT: 11,900gt, LOA: 181.51m, Beam: 26m, DW: 7,600dw, Trailers (40ft) : about 170, Cars: 270) entered service on the Naha-Fukuoka (Hakata) route on February 26, 2021.

The Vladivostok-Otaru-Toyama route, which had been operated by Navis Shipping LLC, Akebono, and Nippon Express Co., Ltd. Otaru branch with RORO vessels since October 2013 was closed in March 2021.

Daio Kaiun's RORO vessel, Haru Maru No.5 (12,404gt, 7,070dw, LOA:179.90m, Beam:27.40m, Draft: 6.75m、Trailer (13m): 160, Car: 250)was completed at Naikai Zosen Innoshima shipyard on May 13, 2021, and entered service on the Iyo Mishima-Uno-Osaka-Chiba route on May 14. The Haru Maru No.2 (2006) was replaced. Her sister ship, Haru Maru No.6 is scheduled to be completed from the late of September to the beginning of October. The Haru Maru No.1 will be replaced.

At around 11:53 pm on May 27, 2021, a Japanese RORO vessel, Byakko (11,453gt, built in 2020), which is operated by Prince Kaiun, collided with the Ulsan Pioneer (2,696gt), a Marshall Islands registered Korean chemical tanker in the Kurushima Strait. About three hours later, the Byakko sank.

Daio Kaiun's RORO vessel, Haru Maru No.6 (12,404gt, 7,070dw, LOA:179.90m, Beam:27.40m, Draft: 6.75m、Trailer (13m): 160, Car: 250)was completed at Naikai Zosen Innoshima shipyard on September 16, 2021, and entered service on the Iyo Mishima-Uno-Osaka-Chiba route.

On November 19, 2021, Kyoudougumi Kaiun's RORO vessel "Misaki II" (2,592gt) entered service on the Kagoshima-Amami islands route. The "Misaki" (999gt, built in 1994) was replaced.

On February 17, 2022, a RORO vessel for Nansei Kaiun, Yone Maru (8,750gt) took the water at Naikai Zosen Setoda shipyard.

Qingdao, China based Dongchen Line Co.,Ltd. (DCL) started freight transport on the Qingdao (Dagang)-Osaka route with the "DCL Qingdao," a RORO vessel (23,503gt, ex-Sunflower Tomakomai) on June 11, 2022.

On June 17, 2022,Shin Tanegashima (4,135gt, 1,430dwt, LOA: 103.00m, LBP: 93.00m, Beam:14.70m, Depth:6.25m), a RORO vessel took the water at Honda Heavy Industries Saiki shipyard. She is set to enter service in October 2022.

Kinkai Yusen Kaisha (KYK Line)'s new ro-ro vessel, SHURI (15,816gt, LOA: 180.3m, Beam: 27.0m, Draft: 7.20m) will enter service on the Tokyo-Osaka-Naha (Okinawa) route on July 26, 2022, KYK Line has announced.

A new RORO vessel, Ryukyu Express 7 (13,650gt, LOA: 191.00m, Beam: 27.00m, Depth: 22.70m, draft: 6.97m, Car: 204, Trailer (13m): 187) for Marue Ferry (A Line) took the water at Naikai Zosen Innoshima shipyard on July 28, 2022. She is set to enter service on the Tokyo-Nagoya-Shibushi (Kagoshima)-Naha (Okinawa) route in January 2023.

"K" Line Kinkai, Euglena, and Suzuyo Shoji announced on September 27, 2022 that they started verification tests aboard the Houou Maru (13,950gt), a RORO vessel with "SUSTEO", next generation bio-diesel fuel at the port of Shimizu.

Naikai Zosen (Innoshima) delivered RYUKYU EXPRESS 7, RORO vessel (13,631gt, LOA:190.90m, Beam: 27.00m, Depth: 22.70m) to Marue Ferry (A Line) on December 2, 2022. She is set to set to enter service on the Tokyo-Nagoya-Shibushi (Kagoshima)-Naha (Okinawa) route from Tokyo on December 8, 2022.

On June 5, 2023, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines announced that it decided to name the new company, which will start up on October 1, 2023, as "MOL Sunflower Ltd."

On June 21, 2023, Tsubasa (2,600gt), a ro-ro vessel for Kyoudougumi Kaiun took the water at Miura Shipbuilding. Tsubasa is set to enter service on the Kagoshima-Amami islans route on October 2023.

On October 31, 2023, a RORO vessel, Fugaku Maru for Fujitrans Corporation (about 13,000gt, LOA: 165m, Beam: 26.6m, Car: 1,754) took the water at MHI Shimonoseki shipyard. She is expected to be delivered in April 2024.

On March 13, 2024, Kariyushi II, a RORO vessel for Ryukyu Kaiun Kaisha (RKK Line) took the water at Onomichi Dockyard's Onomichi shipyard. She is expected to begin to ply between Fukuoka (Hakata) and Naha mainly from July, 2024.
