The project was approved by the counsel on the condition that an electrical driven cable railway was built instead of the proposed elevators. The building permission was given in 1913 and building began late in 1915. All construction work was completed by September 1917 and at 12:00 on 15 January 1918, the Fløybanen was officially opened. Fløybanen was constructed on similar lines to cable cars in Germany, Switzerland and Northern Italy like the "Merkurbanen" in Baden-Baden. Continuing along the wharf you'll proceed to the lower station of the Mt. Fløibanen funicular. Samlingen er bygget opp ved gaver og i tillegg avsetter Bergen kommune åｒig et beløｐ til innkjøｐ�p av kunst. Samlingen er en av de viktigste i Norge, og beståｒ av ca. 7500 kunstverk. I Bergen Billedgalleri finner man mange hovedverk i norsk kunsthistorie og museet har en sæig fin sæｒ mling av J.C. Dahls kunst. Museet har også en fin samling av gamle mestere og nyere internasjonal kunst.

Stenersen' s Collections Bergen Museum (cultural history) Bergen Contemporary Arts Center Rasmus Meyrs samlinger Museet beståｒ av en rekke hovedverk fra norsk kunsthistorie fra 1700-tallet til 1915. Blant kunstnerne representert i samlingen er J.C. Dahl,Thomas Fearnley, Erik Werenskiold, Harriet Backer, Thorvald Erichsen, Gerhard Munthe, Nikolai Astrup, Chr. Krohg og en betydelig samling av Edvard Munch. Rasmus Meyer samlet også på eldre interi�rer fra bergenske hjem. Samlingen inneholder det såｋalte Blumenthal-rommet, et av Norges mest betydelige kunstverk fra 1700-tallet. Rasmus Meyers Samlinger ble donert til Bergen kommune i 1915.
