Den Nationale SceneDen Nationale Scene with its three stages is Norway's oldest permanent theatre, with roots dating back to Det Norske Theater founded in 1850 by the famous violinist Ole Bull. Today, as a publicly owned institution, it shares the position of national theatre with Nationaltheateret and Det NorskeTeater in Oslo.

There is certainly no other aquarium which has so many of the North Sea or North Atlantic's species on show. The Bergen Aquarium at Nordnes opened in 1960 and its reputation for being one of the most visited attractions in the city is well and truly justified. This year (1995), theAquarium will open the doors of a new 1150 square meter addition which will contain several new, exciting displays. | ||||||||

Other Grieg pages Link Edvard Grieg (1843-1907)is the greatest composer Norway has fostered. In retrospect one may wonder how a country with neither national freedom nor a long tradition of artEdvard Griegエs music could have produced a man of such genius. Up to 1814 Norway had been totally subject to Denmark, with Copenhagen as its cultural centre. From 1814 to 1905 it was forced into a union with Sweden. The first half of the eighteenth century was a time of poverty in Norway and it was some time before it could assert itself among its Scandinavian brothers. But for the highly gifted these are perhaps the ideal conditions for providing impetus and nurturing growth.Edward Grieg - Troldhaugen (Norge/Noreg) Troldhaugen - Nina og Edvard Griegs hjemer. All of the guides speaks Norwegian and English. German and French-speaking guides are always available in the summer-season. In addition to these languages, Troldhaugen has Spanish, Dutch and Hebrew-speaking guides. After walking past Troldsalen You will see the small cabine where Grieg used to do his creative work. It had a sofa, a piano and other necessary items. Every night before he went up to the Villa he left a piece of paper on top of his notes, begging a possible intruder to leave the notes alone, since "..they are only valuable to Edvard Grieg". |
