ティレル古生物博物館

アルバタ−州は、石油とともに有名なものに、世界有数の化石の産地である．
カナディアン・ロッキ−は、NHKの放送で有名になった古生代の奇妙な生物群の化石の宝庫、バ−ジェス頁岩Burgess Shale をもっていることで世界的に有名であるが、同時に世界最大の恐竜化石を現在も産出するところとしても、世界的に有名！！！
発掘現場は、世界遺産に指定されている．
エドモントンからカルガリ−までの、緑の一面の小麦畑平原を約３００Ｋｍほど走った後、
カルガリ−の４０Ｋｍ手前で、２号ハイウェ−を降りて、Ｒ７２、Ｒ９号線で、１００Ｋｍほど東に、Alberta badlandsの中心−恐竜の町”ドラムヘラ−”があった．

The Burgess Shale

is a layer of rock high in the Canadian Rockies. This layer of rock contains one of the most important fossil discoveries ever made, dating back to the Cambrian Period, some 505 million years ago. The Burgess Shale fossils are the remains of small, unusually diverse, soft-bodied marine creatures. More than 200,000 exquisitely preserved fossils have been recovered, making the Burgess Shale one of the richest places in the world for Cambrian fossils.

The Royal Tyrrell Museum

celebrates the long history and spectacular diversity of that life. From the tiniest grains of pollen to the mightiest dinosaurs, the Museum presents an amazing diversity of ancient life.
Set in the Alberta badlands, the Museum opened in September of 1985. Four hundred thousand visitors were hoped for that
first year. Nearly six hundred thousand came.
They came to experience the power and excitement of some of the most remarkable fossil displays anywhere, in Canada's only
institution devoted entirely to palaeontology.
